Surgery Without an Incision Removes Her Brain Tumor
“I feel great!” says Constance Grube of Catasauqua, Pa.
There were days last spring when Constance Grube thought her head was going to explode. “I had excruciating headaches,” says the 59-year old Catasauqua, Pa., woman. She also had trouble walking and keeping her balance.
When a CAT scan found a half-dollar size tumor in the area of Constance’s brain that controls coordination and balance, her family doctor sent her to Mei Wong, M.D., neurosurgeon and brain cancer specialist at Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Dr. Wong removed the mass during a six-hour operation, then treated remaining tumor tissue with Gamma Knife radiation, a powerful and accurate tool used for many brain abnormalities.
Lehigh Valley Hospital is home of the region’s only Gamma Knife program. This left Constance pain-free and able to return to work on Jan. 8.
“I feel great!” she says. “Dr. Wong is so great and so nice. She explained everything and made me feel comfortable throughout the treatment.”
